Hank Greenberg

(b. January 1, 1911 - d. September 4, 1986)
|
| Despite playing only nine full seasons, Greenberg
smacked 331 home runs and captured AL MVP honors in
1935 and 1940 for the Tigers. He lost three years
to World War II, but came back in 1946 to lead the
AL in homers and RBI. He had league- and career-high
totals of 58 dingers (1938) and 183 RBI (1937). "Hammerin'
Hank" had a career .313 batting average, a .605 slugging
percentage, and 1,276 RBI. |

card with near perfect centering. This has been the card for Hammerin
Hank, and the perfect portrait, since purchasing it in March, 2003
from Sportscards Plus on eBay. It was a bargain at less than ½ of
the current book value - one of my all time best buys! |

The 1936 Goudey set consists of black-and-white cards
measuring 2-3/8" X 2-7/8". A facsimile autograph is positioned on
the card fronts. Backs contain a brief player biography and were
designed to be used to play a baseball game. Different game situations
(out, single, double, etc.) are given on each card. Numerous front/back
combinations exist in the set. |
