On 11/28/2004, I purchased a 2001 Perez-Steele SGC 96 postcard of
the Negro League great. Many Negro Leaguers don't have any cards
issued during their career so the tribute would have to do. It was
one of several Perez-Steele cards I owned in the collection. In
August 2008 I learned of a different card issue that I hadn't seen
before when I came across a SGC 88 example of the 1987 Phil Dixon
Stearnes on eBay. The portrait was perfect for my collection -a
full head photograph and not a painting. I persuaded the seller
to end the auction early and he sold me the card off eBay for $30.
In May, 2011 I found a couple raw examples on eBay and picked them
up for $12 to submit at a later date. Before I could send them off
to PSA, this gorgeous PSA 10 example hit eBay and I won the auction
in Feb, 2013 for a mere $15 including S&H. |
