Comments: I first purchased
a raw example of this card in February, 2005 at a baseball card
shop in San Jose. It was submitted to PSA and came back slabbed
MINT 9. But, then I decided to replace it with a 1987 Topps Traded
Tiffany when I bought a PSA 10 in August, 2007. Soon thereafter
I started looking for a Blyleven portrait and settled on the 1987
Topps issue so I went back to 1996 Select Certified for Dawson.
I bought another raw card, on eBay most likely, and submitted it
to PSA. The card shown came back graded GEM MT on March 20th, 2008.
UPDATE: In February, 2026 several Mirror Gold PSA 10 examples of Dawson's card showed up on eBay with Buy It Now options - $999 for a Mirror Red, $1999 for a Mirror Blue, and $10,000 for a Mirror Gold. I submitted a couple offers lower then the asking price but they were not accepted. Within 10 days the auctions were ended. Suprisingly, the Red and Blue re-appeared as auctions with a starting price of $9.99 each. I ended up winning both cards for less than my initial offers so I was ecstatic. The Mirror Gold card is still available with a lower Buy It Now (still too high). But, maybe it will pop up as an auction item soon and I'll get a chance to purchase that one as well. So happy with these innagural / vintage "shiny" cards - some of the very first parallels in the hobby with substantially low print runs - /90 (Mirror Red), /45 (Mirror Blue), and /25 (Mirror Gold).
UPDATE: A few weeks later in March, 2026 a 2026 Select Certified Blue PSA 10 appeared on the bay from the same seller. You guessed right - won it!!! I have a couple examples of the Red card and need to send them off for grading. We'll see what grades come back... |
